This week we learned about consumer behaviours and content strategy in terms of the pandemic. We also learned some more good information about content strategy, in general. Andrea Boland highlighted some skills that are essential for content strategy including basic writing skills and communication skills as these are needed to communicate your vision and work with/to people. I agree that these are essential skills because the way you communicate and the tone/voice you use impacts how it is perceived in both speaking and writing. It is not only an important skill for collaboration and working with your marketing team, but also for delivering clear and effective content to your target audience in the appropriate manner according to your brand’s personality and values.

Also, according to Linda Pophal, she outlined that tone mattered especially during the pandemic and how it’s important to be conscious about it in your marketing messages. She emphasized how you should avoid glib comments and be sensitive to your audience. I agree with this because the pandemic was a very serious time when people were scared and unsure about the virus, its impacts, and the future so it makes sense to be extra aware of that when marketing to your audience to ensure the best perception from them. This is all useful to me because working on my communication and writing skills will help my content strategy method, when I communicate with the intended audience whether that is for my sister’s small dipped treat business or a position at a different company. These skills will help me tailor my brand’s personality, message, and content method to the overall content and marketing strategy for the brand. Also, knowing about the atmosphere and situations in the world (like COVID-19) will help you understand your audience better and how they are feeling, which can help you craft your message in a way that is needed and most effective to reach your intended audience.
