Welcome back to Wisdom Waves: Voices of the Week. This week’s guest was Jodie Dublin-Dangleben, a powerhouse of creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial wisdom. As a civil engineer, musician, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and CEO of Jaydee’s Naturals, Jodie has mastered the art of balancing diverse passions. Her mission? To promote sustainable beauty through her all-natural hair and skin care line, building a community around mindful self-care and authentic expression.

Jodie’s journey as an entrepreneur is marked by growth, creativity, and adaptability. She shared how her business, Jaydee’s Naturals, began to “spiral” into new levels of success by leveraging the power of social media. “Social media was the way to go,” she emphasized, describing it as a vital tool for building brand visibility and personal connection. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube were instrumental, allowing her to reach beyond her personal network to connect with people she’d never meet face to face. Jodie described social media as a “free marketing tool” that amplified her voice and let people see her craft firsthand.

For Jodie, platform insights are more than just numbers, they’re a strategic guide. “I always look at insights,” she said, explaining how data on her website helps her understand which products are performing well and which ones need more visibility. “The products with the least sales, I push ads for them,” she explained, showing how data-driven adjustments keep her inventory balanced and profitable.

Her advice for fellow entrepreneurs? Embrace trends but stay authentic. “You want to go with the flow, always staying on top of trends and always keeping your audience looking for more,” she shared. She also highlighted the importance of repurposing content. Using trending hashtags and updating content for relevancy can bring fresh eyes to familiar posts, keeping her brand in front of her audience in a dynamic way.

Jodie’s wisdom is a reminder to all creators and entrepreneurs: success isn’t just about having a good product, it’s about sharing your story, adapting to change, and staying connected with your community.

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
