The wonderful entrepreneur, Jodie Dublin Dangleben, shared her story and marketing tactics on how she turned her idea into a powerful brand. Jodie is a great woman to look up to and believes that if we can believe in ourselves and our creations, we can go on to do great things.

Her company, Jaydee’s Naturals, sells natural and sustainable hair care and skin care products mainly using shea butter, which she makes, and other local oils. She started this company when she found there was nothing in stores for her that worked for her 4c hair. By finding a solution for this issue for all people with coarse hair, Jodie has made it accessible to embrace natural hair styles.

To market her brand and products, Jodie uses all social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok. Instead of only focusing on product promotion, she shares tutorials on all her platforms, mainly YouTube, on different hairstyles for natural hair. She also shows behind the scenes of packaging and creating the natural products. By doing this, she is allowing her audience to understand her personality and her passions and shows potential customers that she understands what she is talking about. It also shows that she is here not strictly for the profit, but to really help and educate others who have felt or feel the way she did prior to creating her line of products.

A marketing strategy that I have not heard of before was to go back to older posts and change their headline or hashtags to help them appear more quickly when searching. This is really smart to ensure that what you have posted can stay relevant and trending.

I can definitely see a future and more growth for her brand. I personally love watching hair styling videos on Tik Tok because it is so interesting and satisfying and I know many would agree with that. I think there are a lot more videos that Jodie can expand into doing even including ASMR hair style or a full wash day routine to gain a larger audience.

I am very thankful to have heard from Jodie and will definitely make sure to follow any of my ideas or dreams into reality.

Jodie Dublin-Dangleben was our guest for this week. She is a social media influencer, who is quite familiar with being able to make content go viral. I think it’s really incredible that she took a personal need for herself and has turned it into a career.

Jodie made an excellent point that using social media platforms, like Facebook, is a free marketing tool. It’s a great place to start that can reach a lot of people. And on top of that, you get to be yourself. Whereas when you’re working for a company, you’re more restricted on what you can and can’t say/do; but for Jodie and other entrepreneurs, marketing yourself has a lot more freedom. It definitely conveys a more emotional connection with this personal kind of marketing than a corporate ad.

Another important topic Jodie talks about is the importance to know your audience, especially when it comes to using different social media platforms to create content. Though similar, each platform is different and has different users. Finding what kind of content you want to make is important. Jodie explains how making a tutorial on YouTube was a lot of work, and a lot of talking. But realize how YouTube shorts are heavily pushed on the platform, and making short quick tutorial with minimal talking was ideal.

Hashtag, hashtag, hashtag. An important tactic to make sure your videos are searchable is using the appropriate hashtags. Jodie explains this is really the only way to make sure your content can be found. And one step further, use hashtags that are currently trending. During the Black Lives Matter era of the internet, using that hashtag would ensure that Jodie’s content would appear under it.

Another key to making quality content is making sure you know what works and what doesn’t. Watching the amount of likes, comments and shares a video gets helps you learn what is working. If a type of content you’ve posted isn’t getting any traction than other types you’ve posted then you know it’s best to not post that type again. Getting feedback from your viewers is another obvious one. Negative reactions are still a teachable moment. Sometimes your audience tells you what they want to see. But keeping an eye on those metrics will help make sure your content is always what your audience likes!
