Small businesses are what keep the community going, and culture and diversity alive. With passion, determination and a willingness to cater to their community, owners work hard to maintain their business going.

Small businesses make up the majority of businesses in Canada. However, with the constant competition they face with chains and larger corporations, they are entitled to help from the province to get and stay up and running. The province of Ontario provides support for those opening small businesses; from resources for conducting market research, creating a business plan and licensing and permits.

During small business week in October, the province announced that they have enabled an estimated $3.6 billion going to small businesses.

Additionally, Scotiabank helps to support small businesses through their “Path to Impact” initiative. Their recent study shows the resilience of optimistic small business owners in Canada in 2023.

 

There are associations that provide support and tools to small businesses on the rise. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business advocates for small businesses and ensures that business owners are able to impact the policies that affect them.
