This week wewere lucky to hear from Mitali Gupta, a Public Relations Professional and a Content Creator. I was especially excited for this specific guest presenter because I am currently majoring in Public Relations and would love to hear the insights of someone who works in the industry themselves. At first, I found it interesting that she changed her major from journalism to PR. I was also very interested in the journalism route until I discovered PR in this program and ultimately choose it when it was time to decide my major, and I am very happy with that choice. Gupta discusses how PR agencies are heavily involved in their clients content creations. Whether that is deciding what they post, when they post, and how they respond to their audience, Gupta is very involved. She also has a connection to the opposing side of PR which is the content itself. She also is very familiar with the content creation side as she is an influencer herself. She knows what may be currently popular, trendy, and what her clients may enjoy interacting with the most.

She also had a different insight into how working with an agency allows you to work with so many different clients. She is able to talk to different brands every day and get a clear understanding of all the different audiences they may need to target, and the specific content strategy that goes into the creative process. She uses the example of a client who may be involved in the haircare niche may be different from another client she may have that is into the healthy lifestyle niche.

Overall, I think working at a PR agency is something very interesting when it comes to all the clients and audiences you work with. I found this interview very informative and helpful for myself as this is the route I also want to take when I graduate. I definitely will be connecting with Gupta on LinkedIn and seeing the interesting content she posts, and I am excited to learn so much more from her and about her.

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
