Hey, and welcome to my blog called “Thank you, next…”. The purpose of the following is to determine whether the guest speakers were worth your time and attention. Was the presentation useful or boring, and did it give you important knowledge and insight? It sounds like a lot of work, so let’s get started…
In this blog, we will talk about the first speaker, Dee Thomson. Dee is a Canadian content creator, digital marketer, and foremost, a blog writer. She has her blog named “A Dash of Dee”, in which she covers a variety of topics ranging from seasonal to everyday topics and situations. At first glance, it seemed like there was nothing I could relate to, and take away from her presentation. She loves to write – I, not so much, she is an influencer – I am far from one. She seemed like a different person and someone who I would not be able to relate to. However, as the presentation progressed, I found way more in common than I thought I ever would.
Dee talked a lot about focusing on yourself before focusing on your work, and that is something that made me get goosebumps…really. Just think about it, how many of us do work because we need to, without the motivation, ideas, the realization of why we are doing this and how it’ll be beneficial? I am sure there are many of us. Dee said that in these moments it’s important to not give up in the work, and simply take a few steps back and breathe. Clear your mind, do something that will bring you happiness, and only after you are fully refreshed, it is best to return to your work. The following resonates a lot with me, since oftentimes I feel very burned out from all the work I need to do, feeling unmotivated, lazy, and clueless. In these instances, it is important to step back and regenerate yourself, since all those negative feelings will reflect in your work. “If the author doesn’t care, why should I?” People become uninterested and careless towards your work when they see your careless behaviour, which is why taking care of your mental health in any part of your life is crucial.
Dee was an amazing motivation factor that opened my eyes to some new and interesting ideas. She proved that being a blog writer is not as scary as it sounds and that despite any hardships, there is always something good that you can take out of it, which is why her presentation was a SUCCESS.
Excited to see what is coming up next, stay tuned and we’ll be back next week!
Thank you, PASSED!
