Hi there! Welcome back to my weekly blogs where we determine whether the speaker is worth your time and energy! Last week, we looked at Angela McLean, who is a Toronto-based copywriter, and a digital content specialist. From her presentation, we discovered that she was a “Thank you, NEXT…”, and unfortunately couldn’t spark any interest.
This week’s guest speaker is Ron Abraham, a co-founder of the digital marketing agency Domin8 Digital, which offers marketing help to businesses in the Fashion and Beauty industries. Dominica-based, he has over eight years of marketing experience and gave many insights about his work in the following presentation.
Ron was one of the most interesting speakers from the following series. Since I am very interested in digital marketing, Ron was the perfect speaker for me. He talked about his career and the many aspects of being a digital marketer, as well as what it takes to become successful. Ron talked about many interesting things, one of which was that your goal should be based on what you plan to achieve. Even though this seems obvious, sometimes we might set goals that barely touch upon what we want to achieve. Especially in media, with everything evolving so fast, it is hard to set up big goals without the idea of what it is that you want to achieve and how you will achieve it.
One of my favourite insights he provided was the idea that data collection is like oil in marketing. As a media student, I am widely aware of data collection, the purpose, and even some of the laws that concern it, however, I have never fully dived into how crucial data collection is in marketing. If you think about it, to make a good advertisement or content for whatever it is you are trying to sell, you need to know who the audience is and what they are interested in to sell the product to the right people. It is also important to know what media platform your audience uses so that you can sell your product on a platform that is suitable for your audience.
Overall, Ron provided me with a lot of valuable information which helped me understand what digital marketing is, as well as the components that go into becoming a good marketing specialist.
His presentation was very insightful and informative, which means it was a complete SUCCESS!
Stay tuned to see what’s coming next, and whether our next guests will be a pass or a next…
But for now, THANK YOU, PASS!
