Hello and welcome back to the final week of Sophia’s Stamp!
This week, I had my favorite guest yet, Marco Renda—a marketing and sponsorship expert based in the Greater Toronto Area, specializing in purpose-driven sports business.
From the start, I found Marco’s story very relatable to my own. I always knew I wanted to get involved in marketing, even though I wasn’t sure where or how. Hearing that he had a similar experience is incredibly comforting.
He shared his experience with MLSE and how he began as an intern. This is so inspiring for students to hear!
Marco went in-depth about his role and responsibilities as a sales executive in the partnership development and innovation team. He referred to it as a “one-stop-shop,” which really resonates. The marketing team is the backbone of generating excitement and buzz, and it’s essential for a thriving business.
I appreciated how he provided details about the sales process and negotiation. As someone who works in sales, I found his insights into the process across different industries, like sports, particularly valuable. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that any potential partnership makes sense for the brand. He described it as a “marriage” between the brand, team, fans, and partners, which is a great way to put it.
Marco also discussed performance evaluation and the need to continuously assess what is working and what isn’t.
He mentioned, “Any experience is good experience,” and shared that he learned about the industry by starting a marketing blog in university. Maybe I should consider continuing with Sophia’s Stamp! Hahaha.
I genuinely think Marco has the skills and experience to be a professor. He offers great insights and knows how to teach. I hope he considers it one day. Do I even need to say it? He definitely has SOPHIA’S STAMP OF APPROVAL!
Thank you so much for a great semester! That’s a wrap on SOPHIA’S STAMP!
