Welcome to “Wisdom Waves,” a blog series dedicated to capturing the essence of our weekly guest speakers. Here, I’ll summarize their insights, key messages, and personal stories, creating a wave of knowledge that you can ride to inspire and educate yourself. Each post aims to distill valuable lessons and spark meaningful reflections.

Today, we had the pleasure of hearing from Dee Thompson, the brilliant mind behind the personal blog “Dash of Dee.” Dee shared her journey and offered incredible insights that resonated deeply with me.

Dee shares about “learning, growing, trying new things, finding what works, what doesn’t work,” and overcoming challenges in her blogging journey. She recounted her own blogging journey, highlighting her challenges and how she adapted to the evolving landscape of online content. Initially, her brand was focused primarily on makeup and beauty, which eventually felt limiting as her interests and the blogging sphere expanded.

Recognizing this shift, Dee decided to rebrand, a courageous move that allowed her to explore a wider range of topics. Highlighting how setbacks can serve as stepping stones to success, Dee states that “it is okay to take a setback, clear your head, clear your mind, and reevaluate.” Every wave we face can lead to growth and new opportunities.

One of Dee’s key messages was about the importance of developing your own style in blogging. She encouraged us to find our voice and express ourselves authentically. “People are going to feel your passion in your blog,” she stated, underscoring how genuine enthusiasm can resonate with readers. By cultivating a unique style, bloggers can connect more deeply with their audience, fostering a sense of community and engagement. Dee’s own evolution in style showcased her dedication to staying true to herself while adapting to her audience’s needs.

Dee empowered me and stated, “You can do it on your own.” She shared her belief that with determination and creativity, anyone can carve their path in the blogging world. This message resonated with me, reminding me that while support is valuable, self-reliance is crucial for personal growth and success.

As I ride this wave of inspiration, I’m excited to stay true to MY niche and take Dee’s wisdom with me!

Stay tuned and see you next week!

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
