This week, I had the pleasure of hearing from Angela McLean, a seasoned Digital Content & Communications Specialist and Senior Copywriter at Accenture. Angela currently works at Accenture, where she works with clients on everything from copywriting to content strategy and social media, constantly learning and adapting to new challenges.

Staying Organized: A Colorful Approach

One of the standout pieces of advice from Angela was her emphasis on keeping things simple and organized. She uses color coordination to map out content strategies, which really resonated with me as someone who loves color coding my own notes and calendars! By color coding tasks and content plans, you can get a clear view of what’s happening and where everything falls in place, making the chaos of content management a little more manageable.

Speaking to Your Audience: Finding the Right Balance

“You want to speak your audience’s language, but don’t force it,” Angela advises. She touched on the delicate balance between crafting messages that resonate with your audience while staying authentic. It’s not about mimicking competitors or trying to be something you’re not. Authenticity is key.

The Mastermind of a Content Manager

Content management, Angela pointed out, comes with no “off” hours. It’s an ongoing, creative process that requires constant attention. Each day brings new challenges, but that’s part of what makes the work exciting. Some tips she shared for staying on top of content include planning ahead and using organizational tools. Embracing the beauty of unpredictability in social media and content creation and always keeping a foot in different creative areas to stay inspired.

Angela’s energy and passion for content creation is contagious, and her methods for managing content with grace and creativity are lessons any content creator can benefit from.

This week’s wave has left me inspired to refine my own approach, and I hope her insights inspire you too. Stay tuned for next week’s Wisdom Waves as we continue riding waves of knowledge!

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
