Hey! Welcome back to another content strategy blog. This week we were introduced to Hootsuite Data Analyst Nitin Goyal. Goyal a Bachelor of Commerce graduate from the UBC Sauder School of Business has spent many years working as an analyst for many different companies in multiple industries. His presentation offered an in-depth look into the journey into the career of a data analyst at Hootsuite, providing insightful perspectives for anyone who may be thinking about going down a similar path. Goyal talked on how he went from studying marketing at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia to being a dedicated data analyst in the SaaS (Software as a Service) sector. Initially employed as a marketing coordinator, he discovered that he was drawn to data-centric activities and that he had a unique ability to focus on data analysis and excel at it without feeling the same dissatisfaction that others do. He was able to move into data-focused roles as a result of this insight and further training, which ultimately led to a job at Hootsuite, where he has been employed since 2018. Goyal also discussed a concept called “data cleaning.” To ensure accuracy, which in turn allows reliable analysis and smart company choices, data cleaning is crucial. By using practical examples, like verifying email addresses on Google Forms, he emphasized the significance of this role. Goyal’s talk on ROI (Return on Investment) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in relation to data analysis and social media covered an important portion of his presentation. He gave clear instances of how these measures assist in measuring performance, such as profit as a KPI for businesses or donations as a KPI for non-profits.For instance, social media managers might use KPIs like follower growth or engagement rates to demonstrate their influence on audience growth and brand recognition. His advice on job exploration, which encouraged career possibilities driven by curiosity rather than just financial reasons, was one of the main lessons learned from his lecture. He advises early career goal-setting, including industry, firm, and job type. By concentrating on a certain area, we can talk about our hobbies with confidence and sincerity, which improves our chances of landing entry-level jobs even if we have no prior experience. Thanks for reading, be back next week with another review! 🙂
