You didn’t hear this from me but…
Sypress is from an op block. Apparently she code switches so you think she’s on your side when in actuality she’s a honey pot agent just trying to get information out of you! Whether it’s her being fake, or an art style of assimilating she’s mastered it.
Lost In Translation
The research is truly never ending, but it’s crucial. Let me give you a peak into your future since you’re so sick of hearing me talk about researching the target audience. Exhibit A:
I must have teleported to a universe where men don’t exist or know what a broom is #annoyed. Symbolism is the foundation of language and greatly affects perception of narrative. For example, something as simple as a stop sign is universal, however the use of the colour red can vary amongst different cultures. To categorize in an overly simplified manner there are three behavioural categories to keep in mind for vague boundaries (Guest Author, 2021):
- Multi-active, emotional and relationship based: Latin America
- Reactive, passive and accommodating: Asia
- Linear active, organizational and factual based: North America
Companies such as Pepsi and IKEA have fallen victim to ignoring cultural nuances, however if they poses the skills needed to pivot, then they would be able to recover successfully and focus on more relatable target audiences.
Calling In the Big Guns
As Gen Z grows and matures (and finally starts making their own money) their opinions and perceptions of your brand will matter if you want to make any profit. A whopping “73% of Gen Z and millennials have a favorable view on brands that voice different viewpoints and support social causes” (Cuker, 2020). Representation of the diverse North American population is beneficial when connecting with the audience on a deeper level and inciting emotional responses while sharing corporate messaging. This can be interpreted as the brand understanding the client’s pain points which will increase brand value (Thomas, 2023).
So I guess it’s not as severe as Sypress being a sleeper agent trying to hack into our minds. In actuality it’s a demonstration of her care, effort, and willingness to explore her audience’s culture. The more I learn the more I feel appreciated by her efforts. Just don’t tell her I said that… if anyone asks.
XOXO,
Bona Fide Barbie
