Welcome back to the final blog post of the semester! Honestly can’t believe how fast the time has gone by, but it’s been an enjoyable and eventful semester! On today’s final blog we are going to focus on one main person and her name is Andrea Boland. She is the content strategist for WestJet!

I was so in awe and fond of Andrea as she studied journalism in the UK and that is currently the profession I am in as well! She gave great tips on so many different things so we will go over some of them in order to gain more insights on how to be a successful content strategist!

One thing she touched upon resonated with me is to not to overwhelm your audience with too much content. I find that I was able to relate to this as being a journalist that likes to uncover every story with all the details, this might be overwhelming for some viewers, especially since nowadays, everyone’s attention span is so low. Obviously it’s important to get all the right information, but it’s good to space things out so you’re not cluttering your audience.

Similarly, for audience engagement, Andrea talks about how it is crucial to receive feedback from your audience in order to improve your content. In any field, this should be a given. This can be done with effective communication between you and your audience so you can see what’s working well with people versus what’s not. Andrea emphasizes strong communication also leaves opportunity for pursuing additional fields such as marketing etc.

Lastly, Andrea highlights the importance of having a wide variety of skills, in order to expand experience and connections. This also creates opportunities for a different range of careers, and learning new methods will keep doors open instead of isolating yourself to very few things. She expressed this especially due to the decline of the field of journalism, so being able to show diverse qualities will bring more resources and advancements to you as the content strategist.

All in all, Andrea gave a great deal of things to consider for a content strategist who wishes to succeed! With that being said, it’s been such a fun semester in getting to learn and grow as individuals by touching upon different concepts and hearing from so many different types of people with their own unique experience and knowledge to share!
