Cristina Venneri's Portfolio

Within my portfolio is a photo series capturing the artistry of crafting a new dish, a cooking tutorial that walks you through the creation of a sentimental recipe to me, and an audio story retelling an exhilarating night that the country will never forget.

Prep to Plate

Working in a restaurant surrounded by culinary experts is a real privilege. I was fortunate enough to capture a moment with one of our chefs, who’s also a good friend, as he prepared a dish of tuna tartare with corn tortillas, fried green onion, and balsamic pearls at the end of a long shift.

A Night of Celebration

An energetic audio story reciting the night of September 20th, 2025. A night that will go down in Canadian History, when the Toronto Blue Jays clinched a win to go to the World Series for the first time in over 30 years.

Reflection Statement

Within my portfolio, I feel most proud of my audio story. A large challenge I faced throughout the semester was curating creative concepts for these assignments. However, this idea seemed to fall right into my lap, and I was able to execute it exactly as I envisioned it. A large aspect of this was the magnitude of the event, which provided me with an immense amount of material to work with. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of editing audio on Premiere Pro compared to video editing. This was very surprising to me as I typically would have loathed hearing my own voice. Despite this, I also found that editing audio was the most tedious task, specifically ensuring that it was clear and cohesive in tone and volume throughout my work. Requiring many re-recordings and detailed editing.

As a creator, I’d love the chance to further explore the process of editing media. I feel much more comfortable with the “behind-the-scenes” aspect of media production, though I would probably excel more working collaboratively in a team with other creatives. I am a perfectionist, and having full creative control of media content throughout the entire process was extremely pressuring. I constantly doubted the work I was producing, thinking “this isn’t good enough, it needs to be better,” when in reality, nothing is perfect, and I just need to learn to accept this and grow from it.
In full transparency, I was dreading this course heading into the semester. I have always struggled with expressing my creativity, fearful of judgment from my peers. Despite this, I am very proud of my portfolio. This course forced me into uncomfortable situations without an escape route; there was no way for me to avoid facing this personal roadblock head-on. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but pushing yourself to do uncomfortable things leads to an opportunity for growth. A lot of this growth can be attributed to the positive environment provided in the classroom. I was never afraid that a question or idea I had was stupid; honest feedback was provided, and with that, so was room for improvement, which I am extremely grateful for. I hope to use what I learned this semester as a motivator for future experiences I may face throughout my life.

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
