Course Reflection

Throughout this course I have faced many challenges and also some major successes. One particular thing I feel I did well was the editing of my video trailer. I’m a huge fan of modern Youtube editing and the community aspects group challenges so bringing those together was a wonderful experience. I was able to cut down over two hours worth of footage into the allotted time while keeping the integrity of the baking storyline. I combined funny moments with footage of the actual items being made to keep an entertaining timeline with a lot of variety. The style of editing has inspirations taken from old comfort Youtubers like Markiplier and Ranboo to make the cut feel inviting and give the viewer a sense of connection. These video styles aim to make the video both entertaining and relatable.

I also think my speed and camera work skills have greatly improved since the start of the semester. At the beginning I was less familiar with the settings available on a camera that allow for more customization. I learned how to adjust my settings on the fly and prepare for the area I would be shooting in beforehand. This was possibly the most challenging part of the course, as my dexterity combined with anxiety about getting a good shot make a nasty pair. However, with practice and a bit more confidence I feel that this skill has been enhanced and that I will continue to get better in the future.

As a creator, I feel that this class has allowed me to tell stories I’ve always wanted to and connect more with my community. Through this course I have made new friends, explored new styles and created media that feels new but true to myself. In the future, I hope to tell more stories and make people feel connected through the various mediums we have experimented with.
