For the last guest presentation of the semester, we heard from Marco Renda, a Sales Executive in Partnership Development for MLSE. In his position, he works on creating mutually beneficial partnerships for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors and FC Teams.
Listening to Marco speak about the details of his day to day work was very useful as I think he was the most detailed about his work compared to previous presenters. He was introducing so many new terms that I have never heard of before and it was fun learning something new. One challenge for MLSE marketing is having such a diverse audience from children to 65+ who all enjoy the sport/team but need to be approached differently.
As mentioned previously, each social media channel needs to have different content for that specific channel’s purpose. One thing that is working really well for their team is the un-refined content being posted on reels and Tik Tok as it is allowing fans to get a new look at the athletes personalities. Just like it is for any business, the more authentic you can get, the better. As MLSE continues to develop and experiment with this content, I think they can expect higher engagement from various channels.
Like Jael had mentioned in this presentation, I would also love to be a part of the MLSE marketing and PR team and think it would be an exciting opportunity for an internship in my 4th year. To go beyond that, I would also like to work with Scotiabank arena or Live Nation as I am passionate about experiencing live events and would be very happy working in that field and being able to work with both content creation, live footage and content strategy.
His position working specifically with partnerships and sponsorships is truly enticing for me for a future career. Even if it is not for MLSE, working on collaborations between two brands is something I could definitely see myself getting into with the world of marketing. I believe that this is where my creative creation process would be most beneficial so when I need to start looking for my placement for 1st semester next year, I will be keeping Marco and his role in mind.
