This week in content strategy, we discuss the importance of keeping up with a digital landscape and marketing trends. Businesses that embrace digital technologies gain a competitive edge. Adopting innovative tools and strategies can differentiate a company from its competitors, attract new customers, and retain existing ones. Consumers are increasingly turning to digital channels to discover and interact with businesses. Having a strong digital presence through a website, social media, and other online platforms enhances visibility and accessibility. Adapting to and leveraging digital technologies can have a profound impact on a company’s success, ensuring relevance, competitiveness, and sustainable growth in the modern market. As discussed in class, this was clearly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was clearly evident that companies and brands that shifted with the digit landscape thrived during the pandemic, and those who didn’t failed to keep up. A great example of this can be seen with the company Peloton. Because of the restrictions the pandemic permitted, people were unable to go to the gym for long periods of time., Peloton, a company that offers connected fitness equipment and virtual classes, experienced a surge in demand. The pandemic accelerated the adoption of home fitness solutions, and Peloton’s digital platform gained popularity. As mentioned in Content Marketing, So what’s Next?, the author mentions how value driven content meaning understanding the needs and content for the customer will surge to the top. Going back to the Peloton example, they were able to deliver content and messaging that was valuable for customers during unprecedented times like the Covid-19 pandemic. Our guest speaker for the week Andrea Bolond also mentioned that understanding the shift of digital markets will only benefit companies.

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
