This week I got to learn from Mitali Gupta, who is a public relations professional and content creator. As Mitali is an active content creator and works at an agency she is able to provide insights based on her career and experience. Through her teachings I am able to explore more about the importance of audience engagement and using analytics to understand your audience more.

Guest Speaker: Mitali Gupta

One of the points that stuck to me was how her strategies centred around building a loyal and engaged audience. I think most people can get caught up in the amount of followers or subscribers they get but if they don’t engage with your content regularly, those followers mean nothing. With this approach it really teaches me to prioritise the audience’s experience before just getting their attention. There are also many tips or tools that are available to use to create engaging content like, catering for a specific social media platform or using analytics to track engagement. These are all important when creating content as the more you understand your audience, the more you can curate content that is catered to your audience.

Another point that stuck to me was that there are already tools available on social media platforms. Tools like stories, polls and question stickers are ways that you can directly engage with your audience on Instagram. This can be great as there are multiple ways you can use these engagement tools to get information on your followers but also an easy way to get feedback.

Overall Reflections

Overall, Mitali has provided insights on audience engagement and highlights the importance of an authentic audience. With engagement tools like stories, and polls and analytics, these tools are important as they allow for opportunities of feedback and loyalty. In conclusion, I have learned many things from this guest presentation that can aid in my future in content creation.

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
