As a student navigating the world of content creation and social media, I’ve realized that we have incredible opportunities now more than ever, to make the most of our work.

Social media manager and content creator, Angela Mclean has learned from her experience in this industry and kindly shared some valuable insight for people just like myself.

First of all let’s be real , social media can be unpredictable. If a post doesn’t land the way someone hopes, it could realistically change the trajectory of their future overall audience and engagement, but in this industry, that is something that could happen and it’s totally okay. Learning to be okay with failure or a post that flopped, is part of the job but it is also what will drive you to find out what actually works. The algorithm changes all the time, and there’s always tomorrow to try something new, which in my opinion, is the exciting part!

Another point Angela made was regarding the importance of repurposed content. When you are just starting out in the industry and you only know of a few tactics that have worked in your favour, stick to it. Repurposing content such as, turning a blog post into a fun video or infographic with a similar tone, can save time while keeping your audience happily engaging. Additionally, by monitoring that engagement, you can learn what resonates and adjust our strategies accordingly. Social media isn’t just about posting, it’s about connecting with people. Understanding what resonates allows you to tailor your content and keep your audience coming back for more, which is what we all want. It’s genuinely all about building relationships, asking questions and encouraging feedback.

The algorithm itself can be super unpredictable, constantly changing things up just when you think you’ve got it figured out. Here’s the thing, life doesn’t always go as planned. It doesn’t matter how prepared you can be or how much research you have done. As a perfectionist, this is a hard pill to swallow. But when a post for example, doesn’t perform as you would have hoped, instead of getting discouraged, we could treat it as a learning experience. It’s important as students to analyze what might have gone wrong in our process and simply be ready to adapt. Sometimes the best ideas come from those unexpected twists.

The bottom line is that we should all keep experimenting with content strategies so that we can navigate this crazy online world. Bringing a unique perspective and creativity to the table is what’s going to make you as a creator truly stand out, no matter how the algorithms shift. We just have to keep trying.
