Discussing what makes sports content viral and the impression it can have on consumers
When sports content goes viral, most of the time it is because of a specific moment that occurs during whatever sport game is being played. This can be through a groundbreaking and insane display of skill from a player that no one has seen before, or a fan doing something crazy or funny in the crowd, or a player breaking a milestone set by an all time great. Viral moments happen in sports everyday, it drives sports forward and keeps people talking. In some ways it inspires the next generation of athletes when one of their favourite players have a viral moment.
In the featured image of the blog post, pictured is one of the biggest viral sports moments in recent memory which was the Jose Bautista bat flip moment in the 2015 MLB playoffs. When this viral moment occurred it sent the crowd into a frenzy with the roof exploding off of the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. On social media, so many posts followed, videos, photos, reactions from fans all going crazy for that moment.
Any type of viral content for whatever it may be, not just sports can have huge impact on a brand’s reputation as well as boost people who purchase your product or service. There could also be negative viral content that nobody wants for their brand and content. This relates to the sports industry because no player or team wants to experience that bad viral moment that people can make fun of you for damage the reputation of that particular team or player.

This week guest speaker Jodie Dangleben talked to our class about all aspects of her career and how she creates her content. She owns Jay Dees Naturals which is her own brand catered for beauty and makeup products. She always tries to use trending topics in the industry to boost aspects of her business, use hashtags for what is trending in her industry, to create a viral moment and to boost content. As well as, the importance of appealing to your audience depending on what platform the content is on. Finally, to switch up posts and make sure content stays unique and fresh as possible so content does not turn boring.
