Hello it’s Brook!
Today we are going to discuss our second week of Intro to Content Strategy! I think that this week offered a lot of insight into how this class might go for the rest of the semester.

I found many common themes between my other courses and this one, which is interesting as I am in my second and this is typically a third year class!

I personally really enjoyed reading the article by Andrew Adams on Creating User Personas as it was very interesting! I have taken some psychology and sociology classes, so I understand that humans tend to put human characteristics and tendencies onto objects or animals, but I find it interesting to learn that we do the same for brands as well! It makes complete sense to personalize the brand and allow marketers and customers alike to see their ideal demographic so that certain things can be tailored to them. My first thought when I hear the word ‘brand’ is typically a clothing company. If a clothing company created a user persona, it would allow them to humanize their data and research and ask the right questions when designing and marketing new releases.

The other two readings just touched on things I think we will look at a lot more in depth in the future, although I do like how the Forbes article allowed me to read about what we spoke about in the first class, as I do really think I benefit from both hearing the content and seeing it.

The speaker I liked most was Dee. I found her way of blogging to be inspiring and her sense of humility to be an endearing quality. I personally find that I am often disliking bloggers and other social media influencers due to their quick nature to sell out and advertise poor quality items that they themselves have been quoted speaking negatively about. Recently I have seen Gordon Ramsey release a line of frozen microwavable dinners, which is very surprising when he has been adamantly against anything heated in the microwave. Dee spoke passionately about her blog and was very honest with the way she refuses and communicates with clients, etc regarding the promotion of something she may not agree with.  I also appreciate how she was clear with everyone that this is mainly just a passion project and she works elsewhere part time. I have respect for her being open and honest as some members of the class may have been interested in starting their own blog as a full time job and it was considerate of her to mention it takes a lot of work to start making money as a blogger.

The only critique or comment I would have for Dee personally, is that she might want to be careful when speaking about her website and buy the domain for “adashofdee.com” as I originally went to that website at first and was very confused by the supposed re-brand!

But it was a great story to hear about and while I could not do blogging as a career, I always like to hear how people’s passions can turn into income and career paths while I am at a stage where I am working on learning that for myself!  Anyways I hope everyone enjoyed my babbling today, have a great week!

Similar names can lead to confusion!

Check out “Adashofdee.com” versus “dashofdee.com”!

Everyone should be aware of similar domain names and aware about slight spelling error which could cause either to loose a reader!

    Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
