Hi there, welcome back! I see you came for another edition to determine whether the speakers are truly worth your time. Last week, we looked at Dee Thomson, a Canadian content creator and writer. From our analysis, we determined that she PASSED by providing useful and interesting insights on her life, career and success ladder.

This week, our new speaker is Ebony Reene Baker. Ebony-Reene is a Canadian content creator and journalist with a key focus on fashion. She is based in London and works as a Refinery29 UK editor, with experience in freelance for other publications Similarly to Dee, Ebony-Reene seemed like nothing of interest since her main passion seemed to be journalism. As many of you might recall- I am not a fan of writing, so her love for journalism, writing articles and taking interviews seemed far from my interests.
Later on, Ebony-Reene began to talk about her current job as an editor in a fashion business, and that quickly got my interest. She mentioned many interesting things, however, there are a few things that stuck with me. As she talked about starting her career as an editor, she said an important line: “Fake it until you make it”. In hearing her say that and explaining her journey of starting a new job and attempting to fit in, I was reminded of how important it is to keep trying.
In many cases, if something is not going well, we give up and think “It’s simply not for me”, but Ebony-Reene makes the important point to continue what you started, and fake it until you make it!
Continuing to discuss her career, she also shared an interesting story from one of the Runway shows she was a part of. As she shared her story, she revealed how she ripped her 700-pound dress right in front of everyone! What a shocker! Even though the situation was embarrassing, Ebony-Reene took it with pride, and now uses it to teach a valuable lesson. “Designer clothes don’t fit real bodies”, was the quote she gave in the interview. Today, women and young girls feel a lot of pressure about how they look and are willing to wear the most expensive and bizarre clothes to stand out. Trying to impress others and gain some recognition, they try to follow unrealistic beauty standards and wear clothes that are simply not suitable for them. Ebony-Reene reminded that not all clothing is made for everybody, and showcased with her example what situations could happen in these cases.
Ebony-Reene’s presentation was very inspiring, knowledgeable and fun! Despite her talking about her career and experience, she also taught important lessons, making the interview even more interesting and relatable.
This week’s presentation was once again a SUCCESS! Stay tuned to see what’s coming next!
Thank you, PASSED!![]()
