In-class lecture- Style Guides

I was not completely foreign to the general concept of a style guide itself, having styles in personal endeavours, as well as company projects and within brand creation. With that said, the depth of which the importance can be utilized was something I failed to consider. I was also uninformed about the variations of style guides and how different elements can play more crucial roles based on which type of style guide is being utilized.

Guest speaker – Phillip

  • Displayed the importance of understanding that change in careers is not a bad thing
  • Touches on style guides
  • Quote that stood out to me: “As humans, we connect with consistency and associate consistency with trust.”

Guest speaker – Dee

  • Underlines the importance of being honest with a company or a brand because your feedback can be used within the brand’s future decisions, and your feedback becomes worth something if you have diversity in your feedback
  • Important bit of info/quote: Dont get caught up in the likes, but get caught up in what people like

In-class lecture – Blogging info

Information was very useful, but in all honesty, the class could have been 30 mins shorter without an in-depth analysis about websites the class is not familiar with/ are not going to be a focus in this class. A simple explanation of what each subcategory (i.e what SEO and analysis tools are) and maybe one example would have been more effective in my opinion.

Guest speakers

Never really mentioned how others can get into the fields they are in, DEE seemed to fall into it by mistake and managed to make a good career out of a very competitive market and Phillip made it seem her original employment with the Caribean news company was a bit of a fluke as she didnt necessarily want to do that and didnt go to the schooling for it either.

Readings

Want to Create Content – was pretty good. Not much to say, but it wasn’t a long read, which encouraged me to look at it in the first place.

Target market – I’m already familiar with some of this info. This is not a bad thing at all because it can depth in my knowledge, but it was quite boring and long.

What are user personas? The link doesn’t work for me, so I dont have much to say about this.

Land Acknowledgment

The University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College are located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Black Alders” in the Mississauga language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all. We acknowledge and honour the land we are walking on, the moccasin tracks of our ancestors and the footprints of the future generations to come.
