NOV 13, 2023- On a minimum wage salary and not a large budget to work with (if any at all!), I find myself discouraged when the likes and shares on a post do not match up with the amount of effort it took to create. Being in charge of creating content for a brand is difficult, but it becomes easier when you learn tips and tricks on what makes things go ‘viral’, and how you can use them to your advantage. One of the most important things to keep in mind when creating content is to stay up-to-date with current trends and topics. Creating content that is relevant to what is happening in the world can help to increase engagement and make your content more shareable. This week I spoke with the CEO of Jaydee’s Naturals, Jodie Dublin-Dangleben, as she has had success with many viral YouTube videos and TikToks. One of her secrets was to go back to old posts and add new and trending hashtags to keep the content relevant. Depending on what is trending, you might end up using hashtags that aren’t directly related to your content but will get you clicks (e.g., #christmas on a post about haircare). This tip is perfect for someone like me, a student with no marketing budget, to implement at Sephora when thinking of ways to generate more engagement with old content. In addition to that, repurposing content by changing it up slightly to make it relevant to another topic is a trick Jodie uses as it saves time and allows you to get the maximum reach on your hard work.
