Reflection

As a second-year student in the University of Guelph-Humber Media and Communications program, I strive to hone and develop my photo, film, and video content creation skills. At the beginning of this new semester, I was well-versed in photo and video cameras used in content curation and content editing software. Since then, I have discovered and familiarized myself with new equipment for audio and video production. While I enjoyed learning how to operate new equipment, I soon realized much of my photography knowledge had faded, leading me to relearn the basics. I initially struggled with knowing what functions I wanted to perform, yet having forgotten the knowledge of how to do so. Despite this, I found myself enjoying repairing my skills and familiarizing myself with new technology. Through this stage of re-education and improvement, I quickly discovered the importance of having an eye for detail and its role in improving my projects. Subtle additions such as sound effects and transitions assisted greatly in bringing life to projects.

This semester taught me that my greatest strength as a content creator is my creativity. Factors such as commuting, energy, and time constraints were a significant thorn in my side. Even so, I was given the insight and opportunity to make many exciting projects. Among my favourites, my audio project and a short video lab stood out as my best work. The silliness of the stories is the element I’m most proud of. Going forward, I plan to practice and further my knowledge in photography to improve the quality and clarity of my projects. I am most excited for new opportunities to bring silly stories to life using videography and editing skills I’ve acquired in this course. This course has given me more confidence in my capabilities and the possibility of pursuing freelance work in the future.
